
AHEPA Hercules Spartan Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia Announces $4,000 Donation to Thalassemia Research at the 100th Anniversary Celebration
Philadelphia, PA — The AHEPA Hercules Spartan Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia proudly announces a donation of $4,000 toward vital research on Thalassemia under the auspices of the esteemed Dr. Zissis Chroneos, Professor at Penn State University.
The donation is payable to:
Division of Neonatal–Perinatal Medicine, Department of Pediatrics,
Penn State College of Medicine — Thalassemia Project.
“This contribution will help continue the great work of helping others,” stated AHEPA President Paul Kotrotsios, who encourages all members, friends, and supporters to join in this effort and contribute toward advancing critical medical research. He further pledged that, in the future, the Chapter will launch a special fundraising event to secure additional resources for this important cause, which affects many individuals of Mediterranean descent.
In addition to this philanthropic initiative, AHEPA Chapter 26 is honored to celebrate its 100th Anniversary on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the elegant Arts Ballroom in Philadelphia, PA.
The day will begin with a Liturgy Service at the Cathedral of Saint George, followed by festivities commemorating a century of service and dedication to the Hellenic ideals of philanthropy, education, civic responsibility, and family.
His Eminence Metropolitan Apostolos of the Metropolis of New Jersey will attend this milestone celebration, along with Supreme President of AHEPA Chris Kaitson, and Executive Director Basil Mossaidis, who previously served as District Governor of Pennsylvania. In addition, several officials from the AHEPA Supreme Lodge, including District Governor of Pennsylvania Tim Vlassopoulos, will be present.
Presidents of local chapters—such as Chapter 445 President Dr. Dimosthenis Giamouridis, among others—will also attend.
Furthermore, Past Supreme President of AHEPA George Horiates, a prominent member of our community and the leading organizer of the next AHEPA Supreme Convention in Philadelphia in July 2026, has declared his support and will be present at this milestone event honoring Hellenes throughout Greater Philadelphia.
