AHEPA Sunday Celebrated at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia

Philadelphia, PA – May 17, 2026
As part of the annual observance of AHEPA Sunday, proclaimed each year by His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros of America, members of AHEPA Chapter 26 of Greater Philadelphia gathered at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Philadelphia to celebrate the enduring contributions of AHEPA and its commitment to the principles of Hellenism, faith, education, philanthropy, and community service.

Each year, Archbishop Elpidophoros issues a special message to the faithful throughout the United States, encouraging parishes to recognize and honor the men and women who have contributed to the advancement of Hellenic ideals and have strengthened the Greek American community through service and leadership.

This year’s celebration at Saint George Cathedral was chaired by Perry Kyritsis, assisted by Co-Chairman Leo Melissinos. Following the Divine Liturgy, the brothers of AHEPA hosted a coffee hour and offered a generous assortment of pastries and refreshments to the entire congregation. All proceeds collected during the event were donated to the Saint George AHEPA Scholarship Fund, supporting the educational aspirations of future generations. In addition, the Board of AHEPA Chapter 26 announced a commitment to contribute $1,000 annually to the fund and pledged to work toward expanding the event in future years so that even greater support can be provided to deserving students.

Father Anastasios spoke warmly about the historic role and continuing mission of AHEPA, praising the organization’s dedication to faith, family, education, and community. He also invited Chapter President Paul Kotrotsios to address the congregation briefly, where he expressed appreciation for the support and collaboration of Saint George Cathedral and emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Hellenic values among future generations.

The hospitality shown by Maria Tsiouris, President of Saint George Cathedral, and Dr. Paul Karagiannis treasurer made all the AHEPA brothers feel welcomed and at home. Their support and cooperation contributed greatly to the success of the celebration.

Anthony Beldecos, Esq., Peter Chletcos, John Sarkiohlou were also present. Representing the Daughters of Penelope were, Georgia Chletcos and Veronica Crisp, whose presence underscored the strong spirit of cooperation among the family of AHEPA organizations.

The annual AHEPA Sunday observance continues to serve as a reminder of the organization’s proud legacy and its ongoing commitment to supporting the Church, strengthening the Greek American community, and investing in the leaders of tomorrow.
